The Sainsbury Laboratory is a research Institute located within the University Botanic Gardens which focuses on plant developmental biology and computational modelling of plant development. The Institute currently has approximately 150 researchers and 30 support staff.

Applications are invited for the position of Events Assistant, to assist in delivering a full range of events, looking after visitor schedules and supporting outreach projects. This administrative role supports the Events and Outreach Manager and arranges the day to day particulars of a diversified programme of seminars, symposia, workshops, visits, outreach activities and staff events, including occasional evening and week-end occurrences. The role holder is also responsible for publishing an internal weekly newsletter and assisting with the Institute AV systems. The role holder will be working with staff across the Institute, alongside other University departments, external organisations and suppliers. 

Candidates must be educated to at least A-level standard or equivalent and have some office experience, particularly in a busy admin or events setting. Previous experience in outreach activities as well as an understanding of an academic environment is desirable. The role holder will have excellent IT skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office software; experience using Microsoft SharePoint would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, with a positive, service-oriented, can-do attitude. S/he will be able to work both independently and in a team, with a pro-active approach to troubleshooting and problem solving. Attention to detail, a high level of accuracy and effective time management are essential.
