The Faculty of Arts is seeking to appoint a Senior Tutor in its School of Modern Languages to join a team of four Senior Tutors across the three Schools in the Faculty of Arts on a fixed term contract for one year in the first instance. S/he will be responsible for the provision of high quality professional pastoral support and advice to undergraduate students and will play a pivotal role in supporting the student experience, student progression and well-being. The postholder will be the first point of contact for students wishing to discuss a range of pastoral and welfare issues and will act as the interface between the academic staff in the School and the central support services in the University, ensuring appropriate communication and actions. The postholder will work closely with the three other Senior Tutors to develop appropriate student support mechanisms across the Faculty, and contribute to the development of teaching materials to support study skills, transferable skills and employability, in the School of Modern Languages and more broadly.
The successful candidate will be degree educated in a relevant subject discipline (either Modern Languages or a cognate Arts or Humanities degree area) with substantial professional experience in working with students in a post-16 environment, ideally in higher education. Evidence of an understanding of student needs and an interest in, and contribution to, the development of an excellent student learning experience are paramount. S/he must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with students, academic and administrative colleagues at all levels of the University. S/he must be able to work with students, in a diplomatic, sensitive and supportive manner.
For informal enquiries regarding the vacancy, please contact Dr Mark Allinson, Faculty Undergraduate Education Director, email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is anticipated that presentation and interviews will be held on 19 January 2017, and that the post will commence towards the end of January 2017 or soon thereafter.
The University of Bristol is committed to equality and we value the diversity of our staff and students.
