Research Associate in numerical modeling of multiphase flows

Applications are invited for a research associate position to work at Imperial College London, at the South Kensington Campus. The main role of the post holder will be to carry out research in the area of numerical modelling of multiphase flows. The purpose of the project will be to create the next generation modelling tools for complex multiphase flows. The numerical tools will incorporate advanced computational techniques, the use of adaptive mesh-refinement, and massive parallelisation. This post will be funded by a £5M Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)-funded Programme Grant that will harness the synergy between world-leading scientists from four prestigious institutions: Imperial College (lead organization), Birmingham, Nottingham, and University College London. It will be expected that the post holder will interact closely with the experimental component of the Programme, carried out at all the participating universities, in order to validate, and update the numerical tools, and to provide input into the design of experiments.

The successful candidate should hold, or be near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, applied mathematics or a closely related discipline. (S)he should have a strong background in fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, and numerical modeling; knowledge and experience in multiphase flows is also essential. (S)he should have considerable experience in developing models, numerical tools, and writing computer programs to implement numerical methods to solve partial differential equations, and in adaptive mesh refinement, parallelization. (S)he should have knowledge of programming languages (e.g. FORTRAN, C++).

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum.
