Part of Northumbria University, Think Physics is an ambitious project in the North East region which is inspiring, exciting and supporting young people in science and physics from early years to sixth form and beyond. Working regularly through a number of partner schools to engage young people and their key influencers, the project introduces the wide range of career options available through the study of Physics and other STEM subjects. The project has a particular focus on widening participation and gender balance.
The Outreach Specialist and Ogden Science Officer will deliver careers focused secondary workshops, primary workshops and support Ogden school partnerships and other local schools. You will work with local, national and international employers and Academics at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne to engage them in the Think Physics project in different ways to support the objectives of the project. You will also develop careers-focused materials to support teachers to embed careers information in the classroom.
You will have experience of working with young people and a good knowledge of STEM career choices, advice and guidance available to young people. You will be enthusiastic, flexible and have a genuine commitment to deliver positive results for children and young people.
The position will be based predominantly within the Faculty of Engineering and Environment but will be expected to work with other partners, including Ogden Science officers, across the region and with employers across the UK. Some evening and weekend working will be involved.
