Based at WJ Products Ltd, Newton Longville, Milton Keynes
Temporary contract for 15 months
This is an exciting 15 month fixed term post with WJ Products Ltd, manufacturer of high quality road marking products in the UK. WJ produces specialist paint products and is the largest independent road marking contractor in the UK.
Employed by The Open University, but based full-time at WJ’s offices in Newton Longville near Milton Keynes, you will work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to transform the road marking industry by acting as both a research scientist and project manager to help WJ Products acquire the knowledge and capabilities to synthesise, analyse and develop innovative sustainable materials and application methods for efficient highway marking delivery.
You will have a MChem or BSc in Chemistry (2:I or above) and some research experience in synthetic or materials chemistry; you will need to feel equally at home working in the field, alongside road crews as you are in the laboratory and thrive on working in an unorthodox commercial and research environment.
You will need a driving licence and be willing to travel between sites across the UK and Europe and have the ability to work, communicate and influence academic and business people.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to accelerate career progression with great training opportunities and valuable commercial experience.
The University is proud to have gained an Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze Award in April 2013 with the School of Life, Health & Chemical Sciences gaining an individual Bronze Award in October 2016.
