The Department of Physics, the Cavendish Laboratory, invites applications for a University Lectureship in Experimental High Energy Physics to commence on 1 March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Lectureship will be based in the Department of Physics as part of the High Energy Physics group. The appointment will strengthen the group's existing international reputation in experimental particle physics on the ATLAS and LHCb experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, and participate in future initiatives in the field (http://www.hep.phy.cam.ac.uk/).
The successful candidate will have a world-class research record in detector development and/or physics analysis for particle physics experiments. They will be expected to lead the physics exploitation and the group's upgrade programme for the ATLAS or LHCb experiment. Participation in a future accelerator or non-accelerator based particle physics experiment initiative is also desirable.
Applicants should have a PhD and a strong record of relevant research, and must show evidence of being able to teach physics successfully at both undergraduate and graduate level. The Department is active in promoting policies to address historic under-representation of women and minority groups in its workforce. We are proud to hold an Athena-SWAN Gold Award for our work on equality and diversity. Candidates from under-represented groups, as well as candidates with a track record in addressing barriers to equality and diversity in education, are particularly encouraged to apply.
The appointment will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance.
