Postdoctoral Research Officer in Soil Security

We are seeking to recruit an 18-month postdoctoral researcher to work on the project entitled “Securing long-term ecosystem function in lowland organic soils” which is funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) under the Soil Security research programme.

Applications are invited for this full-time post working in the College of Natural Sciences with the post based in the Environment Centre Wales. The appointee will report directly to the academics at Bangor University and liaise with the other partner organisations to undertake collaborative experiments. Duties will include both field sampling and laboratory work.

Candidates should be educated to PhD standard and have experience in either soil science, agriculture/agronomy, environmental science, crop science or a related subject. Other desirable characteristics include an understanding of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon cycling or the management of organic soils. The candidate will need to have a full driving licence and be willing to work out of hours and at weekends (e.g. to undertake event sampling in East Anglia). Willingness to travel will also be required (e.g. to the partner institutions, industrial partners, policymakers and NERC Soil Security programme meetings). An essential part of the post will be to integrate within the existing research group in the Environment Centre Wales, present at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed academic journals. 

The successful candidate will be expected to commence in March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
