New York University Abu Dhabi - Career Development Center Position

Position Summary
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Career Counselor to join the Career Development Center.  Under direction of the Associate Director of Career Services, the Career Counselor will provide career counseling regarding career decision-making, goal setting, career research and the job search process in individual and group settings. They will also design and deliver customized workshops and programs on a variety of career-related topics to students and alumni; and perform campus and community relationship building including outreach to student interest groups.

Key Responsibilities

Career counseling and drop-in advising

  • Conduct individual career counseling sessions with students in all disciplines (average 20 appointments per week)
  • Interpret assessments such as MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory, identify values and interest patterns, identify tentative goals and objectives and formulate action plan to meet individual student needs
  • Responsible for weekly drop-in advising

Workshop delivery, program planning and implementation:

  • Present effective career related workshops and seminars including resume writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, graduate school preparation, etc.
  • Develop and implement, individually and as a team member, programs and events appropriate to the target audience(s)
  • In collaboration with the counseling team, design and develop new career development activities with input from students, Campus Life colleagues, student interest groups, and feedback from employers
  • Collaborate with counseling staff to plan and implement career panels and other special events
  • Develop, design and create videos and webinars individually and in collaboration with the CDC team

Campus liaison relationships: development, enhancement and maintenance:

  • Actively develop and strengthen general campus relationships and partnerships, specifically with the Arts & Humanities Department, through outreach and special programming
  • Exercise discretionary power to establish operating procedures for collaboration with academic units and/or targeted populations
  • Develop best strategy and tactics to be used for designated populations 

Education Requirements


  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field


  • MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory Certified

Experience Requirements


  • Substantial previous work experience in counseling, recruitment, student affairs and other relevant industries
  • Individual and group career counseling skills applicable to University students
  • Knowledge of adult developmental issues throughout the lifespan
  • General knowledge of employment information and career planning resources for client use including job search
  • General familiarity with the principles of employment techniques such as the teaching of creative job search strategies, interviewing skills and resume preparation
  • Ability to implement individual and group programs in career development for specified populations
  • Strong Computer Skills (e.g. Microsoft Office software)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work as a lead person in developing and implementing career development programs involving collaborative arrangements with professional colleagues
  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced environment, demonstrating initiative and dependability


  • Knowledge of Symplicity, LinkedIn, Google Applications, Powtoons and Prezi
  • Experience with multi-cultural, global students
  • Prior experience in a university career center
