Research Assistant in Epidemiology/Public Health

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a MSc or equivalent in epidemiology/ Public Health or related quantitative field, to join a team of an exciting research study called SCAMP (Study of Cognition, Adolescents and Mobile Phones), that has set up a secondary school cohort of mobile phone use and neurocognitive and behavioural outcomes. The study launched in May of 2014 and the post holder will assist in the 3-year follow-up of a cohort of ~6,000 school children now in in year 9 (ages 13-14 years) from ~25 schools in outer London. The Department has attracted an excellent multi-disciplinary team interfacing across mechanistic toxicology, exposomics (biomarkers of exposure and disease), epidemiology, database programming, geographical information systems, statistical methodology, and risk assessment and policy evaluation.

The post holder will be involved in following-up and analysing the cohort, including liaising with schools, obtaining consent, preparation of questionnaires and cognitive assessments, working to ensure collection of questionnaire and mobile phone traffic data, and undertaking in-depth data cleaning and analysis.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology and statistics and will join a leading group at the cutting edge of developments in mobile phone use and health research. This full-time post is based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and will be fixed term from the date of appointment until 2 January 2018.
