A part of the Food and Drink Division in the School of Science, Engineering and Technology, Food Innovation @ Abertay (FIA) is a practical innovation support service to food and drink businesses. FIA offers creative solutions to business challenges by the use of specialist staff, equipment and facilities. These solutions are tailored to specifically meet business needs and are delivered on schedule and in a cost effective way.
The University now seeks to appoint a Food Technologist to support FIA activities, Knowledge Transfer partnerships, training of staff/students and consumer research.
Reporting to the Business Development Manager of FIA, you will be involved with FIA projects working on new product development, recipe reformulation, processing techniques, consumer & nutritional analysis, production support, and also analytical work with our food security, & consumer research teams. The job includes responsibility for the operation of the FIA laboratory which includes food testing, preparation, production, and packaging equipment and also the arrangements for consumer research.
Tasks will also include recordkeeping, e.g. COSHH, risk assessment, equipment SOPs, as well as maintaining appropriate working conditions in the FIA laboratory. Other tasks would include administrative work, stock control, scheduling of work within the FIA laboratory relating to e.g. production trials, consumer trials, student/graduate student access, etc. Meeting with potential and existing clients will also be required as well as compilation of and/or input to client reports. Supporting Divisional activities such as KTPs, training and consumer panels, as appropriate, is also expected.
Educated to at least BSc level in a relevant discipline, you will be a motivated, independent scientist, with strong organisational and communication skills. Good timekeeping and initiative are important attributes for the successful candidate. Previous experience in Food Science & Technology research would be an advantage.
