The Mechanical Services Section is responsible to the operations and maintenance of a wide variety of complex equipment throughout the University Estate. The Building Services Technician's operate a two shift twelve hour rota system that covers 365 days a year. Their duties involve attending breakdowns, conducting planned maintenance and the monitoring of heating and ventilation plant, hot and cold water systems and a wide range of associated electrical services.

Responsible for assisting in the supervision of contractors, the implementation of escalation procedures to maintain business continuity and to provide the first point of contact in emergency situations.

To prioritise own workload and tasks, taking into account where the problem is, the nature of the problem, the number of people affected and the usage of the building.

To prioritise the workload of Assistant Building Services Technicians and provide direct supervision of their daily duties.

The implementation of the escalation procedures for business critical services, i.e. fire alarm faults, server room breakdowns and lift failures.

Responsible for assisting in the supervision of contractors, the implementation of escalation procedures to maintain business continuity and to provide the first point of contact in emergency situations.
