Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry/Drug Development: Optimisation of small peptides for migraine therapy

PharmNovo UK - Liverpool John Moores University

Contract: 12 months fixed term

Innovate UK, Biomedical Catalyst initiative funded

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral scientist to work on a collaborative, multidisciplinary drug development project funded by the Innovate UK, Biomedical Catalyst initiative. The successful candidate will be employed by PharmNovo UK Ltd. and the position will be located in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) which has excellent, newly refurbished facilities for drug discovery and development.

The aim of the project is to optimise the biological and physicochemical properties of novel short peptide antagonists of the calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) receptor with the eventual aim of developing a novel anti-migraine therapy. The work will involve peptide synthesis, analysis and purification and in vitro analysis of receptor activity.

You should have a PhD with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: synthetic organic chemistry (ideally, working with peptides but training will be provided), chemical biology, receptor pharmacology/cell biology. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, which are evident from written reports, presentations and publications and a proven research track record. Publication of appropriate research will be encouraged. In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate that they are an effective and enthusiastic team member and be prepared to work closely with a second postdoctoral scientist whose focus will be on nanoparticle formulation of the peptides for nasal delivery and who will be employed on the project by LJMU.

This is an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist who wishes to gain experience of pharmaceutical research and development.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Chris Coxon, School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences (C.R.Coxon@ljmu.ac.uk) or Prof David Kendall, PharmNovo UK Ltd. (david.kendall@pharmnovo.com)

Please send a Covering Letter and CV to Prof David Kendall, PharmNovo UK Ltd. (david.kendall@pharmnovo.com)
