Catering Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Catering Assistant to join the School of Engineering and Digital Arts to assist the catering supervisor with the operation of the School's Tea Bar. Delivering an imaginative, efficient and high quality service in a fast paced, vibrant environment. Playing a key role in ensuring an efficient, effective and welcoming experience for all customers. You will ensure the provision of a high quality catering and refreshment service to University students, staff, and visitors whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery, safety, hygiene and compliance with legislative requirements and the University’s code of practice.

As Catering Assistant you will:

  • Deliver excellent customer service being welcoming, developing and maintaining a constant and pro-active approach to customer care.
  • Serve food, beverages and snacks, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment at all times, maximising opportunities of upselling and increased income generation.
  • Undertake all aspects of stock control including ordering from nominated suppliers, in the absence of the catering supervisor.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • GCSE English and maths or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a catering environment.
  • Experience of food Preparation & Service.

The School was founded in 1966 as the Electronics Laboratory, becoming the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) in 2009 to better reflect the breadth of its disciplinary base. This combination of digital arts with engineering and technology in one school is a unique characteristic of the School. Within the Faculty of Sciences, it is located in the Jennison Building on Canterbury campus, a building which has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and expansion programme making it accessible to all and enabling greater interaction between staff and students. The Jennison building is a focus for academic and social activities within the School which lends to a strong sense of community. Being a relatively small School ensures that staff and students work in a friendly environment, offering an inspiring and challenging student experience within the beautiful and historic city of Canterbury.
