Research Assistant/Fellow - Statistical Modelling For Abstractive Summarisation

University of Aberdeen’s Computing Science Department has an opening for a Research Assistant or Research Fellow (depending on experience and qualification) to undertake research on machine learning and natural language processing in the context of an EPSRC funded project.

We are seeking a Research Assistant/Fellow to contribute to a project working in the area of machine learning, text mining and natural language processing. This post is part of a project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and you will play a central role in the R&D to be carried out in the project.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other dynamic researchers in the field of data mining and natural language generation at the University of Aberdeen. There will also be opportunity to develop your research profile, to travel to give demos and presentations, and to write technical and research publications. In your application you should demonstrate your technical skills and understanding of the above identified research areas.

The successful candidate should start the post on 1 February 2017.

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of machine learning, text mining and natural language processing. Good programming skill is also essential. Experience with text summarisation, statistical topic modelling, and research income generation is desirable. You will have a MSc/MEng, or PhD (or be about to complete a PhD) in computer science, data science or a cognate discipline.

Salary will be paid at the rate of £32,004 per annum for appointments made at Research Fellow level on Grade 6 of the University salary scale. Consideration will be given to making an appointment at Research Assistant, Grade 5 level in the first instance (£26,829 - £30,175 per annum) for individuals in the final stages of completing their PhD or who hold an MSc/MEng in computer science.

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 12 month probation period.
