Research Assistant: Salary Range: £31,740 - £33,370*
Research Associate: Salary Range: £36,070 – £43,350 per annum
(Maximum salary on appointment will be £37,970 per annum)

A fixed term appointments for 36 months

As part of the Horizon 2020 project STARCELL, a research position is available to work on the theory and simulation of next-generation materials for solar energy conversion in the group of Professor Aron Walsh.

The Department of Materials, wishes to appoint an outstanding individual with a strong track record in first-principles electronic structure calculations to work in the research group of Professor Aron Walsh The post is funded by the STARCELL project connecting leading research groups on photovoltaics in Europe, USA and Japan. You will play a leading role in computational support for the development and characterization of new materials based on first-principles electronic structure calculations. Areas of interest include, but are not restricted to, electronic excitations, theoretical spectroscopy, transport phenomena, materials data and informatics. 

You will also be a conscientious, innovative scientist who has successfully completed or is about to obtain, a PhD (or equivalent) in theoretical or computational physical science. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate an ability to understand first-principles quantum-mechanical calculations in detail and have an understanding of and interest in solar cells.

The post is available to start from January 2017.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum.
