Deputy Head of Business and Educational Development

Imperial College London - Faculty Education Office

Faculty of Medicine

Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine is one of the world’s top medical schools at one of the world’s most-respected universities. We are at the forefront of undergraduate medicine, postgraduate study and cutting-edge research, benefiting patients and populations globally. One of Europe’s largest, with £227.5 million in turnover, 2,500 staff and 3,000 students, we are ranked fifth in the world for clinical, pre-clinical and health by Times Higher Education (2015-16).

The Business and Educational Development (BaED) Section works within the Faculty Education Office to provide support to a number of high profile and strategically important projects and areas of development within the education arena. The Section consists of teams responsible for Collaboration, Educational Development, Postgraduate Educational Management and the Health Sciences Academy.

A large part of the role will be to support the Head of Business and Educational Development in delivering his duties holistically across the teams. The post holder will develop expertise across the relevant areas and support the changing priorities and activities of education within the Faculty, hence an agile and flexible approach to work is crucial. S/he will work closely with the Head of Business and Educational Development to:

  • Harness existing expertise within the BaED Section to explore and scope other strategic opportunities for the Faculty, which will provide additional income to the Faculty for enhancement.
  • Manage the harmonisation and expansion of postgraduate education across the Faculty and the on-going development of collaborative activity under the Health Sciences Academy umbrella.
  • Enhance the Medical Education Research Unit to become a well-known hub of educational expertise and ensuring transfer and scholarly application of knowledge across the educational arena.

This dynamic role will suit a motivated, proactive and meticulous individual who can work holistically across various streams of activity and will benefit from an innovative person who can manage their work and the work of their team in a structured and agile manner.

You will bring a positive approach to work and evidence a track record of being able to influence policy/strategic decisions of others not within their direct line management responsibility. Key to success will be an ability to think proactively and demonstrate strategic problem solving skills.

You will be located at the South Kensington campus, but may be required on occasion to travel to other campuses and travel outside the UK may also be required.

This post is full time and open ended.
