An exciting opportunity has arisen for a high throughput sequencing Bioinformatician within the Department of Oncology based at the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre’s (BRC) Molecular Diagnostics Centre. Our focus is on translational research and in particular, the clinical applications of genomics technologies including whole exome and genome sequencing to cancer, rare diseases, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

You will be responsible for next generation sequencing data analysis (including exome, genome and targeted sequencing with a focus on cancer sequencing analysis), and computational aspects of the sequencing operations, including setting up appropriate analysis pipelines and sample tracking databases. You will be encouraged to develop novel analytical methods in collaboration with groups within the Department of Oncology and Oxford BRC Molecular Diagnostics Centre which will provide a diverse and stimulating array of challenges relating to biology, sequence analysis, statistics and computer programming and this, combined with the collaboration with the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG) provides an active and rich research environment.

You will have a PhD in bioinformatics, statistical genetics or a similar discipline and have strong postdoctoral experience in applied DNA sequence analysis. Experience in the analysis of next- generation sequencing and cancer sequence analysis data is highly desirable. You will need excellent programming skills in languages such as Perl, C/C++, R, Python, Java, SQL or similar. The ability to work as part of a team is essential.

The position is full-time and is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.
