Role Description

The University of York is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive UK universities. The recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) confirmed the position of the University among the leading institutions in the UK for research. The proportion of research activity of world-leading, 4* status is among the highest of any UK university, and York is rated tenth out of 155 higher education institutions for the impact of its research. The University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television was founded in 2006, and moved into a superb, £30m purpose-designed facility in 2010. We are now seeking to enhance our research and teaching in discipline-specific fields while strengthening and expanding our interdisciplinary work across theatre, film, television and interactive media.

You will join a theatre team which at present consists of nine academic staff and two theatre production officers. The theatre team also works collaboratively with academic and technical staff in film, television and interactive media. We are seeking applicants who are enthusiastic and well-informed about a range of different kinds of theatre, combined with teaching experience at university level. You will have an established or developing record as a publisher of research and/or creative work that can be understood in terms of research-as-practice. You should also have an aptitude working practically in the rehearsal room and/or liaising and developing projects with leading industry professionals. The successful candidate will play a significant role in the planning, delivery and assessment of the BA and the MA in Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance. You will contribute in a substantive manner to the research profile of the department, and will also undertake administrative and pastoral responsibilities in the department and participate in the planning and organisation of the professional visitor programme.
