University of Dundee - Undergraduate Medical Education

Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
8/2 academic/clinical sessions (up to 2 EPAs by negotiation).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a vibrant and motivated individual to join the School of Medicine in Dundee. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic senior primary care clinician to play a key role in the innovative development of the primary care in Tayside and beyond. Though focused on community aspects of the undergraduate education the post offers scope for all aspects of medical education, innovation, research and leadership. Hence, we seek an exciting and innovative leader able to raise the profile of general practice and community based care across the School, the University, nationally and internationally and enhance the school’s reputation in this field.

In the short to medium terms you will work with our partners across Scotland to develop excellent and exciting community based teaching for our students. You will continue to develop our longitudinal clerkship programme and our widening access portfolio, both high priorities for Scottish Government. Working with our colleagues in St Andrews you will support the development of the new and innovative Scottish Graduate Entry Medical Course (due to commence Sep 18). We aim to further develop our own primary care curriculum across all 5 years, increasing our integration into the systems teaching and offering all students practical primary care experience from an early stage in their careers. Within the postgraduate education field you will work with the teaching teams to contribute to the general practice and community based care aspects relevant to taught postgraduate programmes locally, nationally and internationally.

Beyond the above you will join a vibrant scholarly environment where leadership from senior clinical academic staff is both expected and welcomed. We recognise the domain will depend on pre-existing experience and interests.

The University has been voted as Scottish University of the Year in both the 2016 and 2017 Good University Guides and is ranked fourth in the Medical School rankings (Guardian). The Medical School is in the top 150 worldwide.

Tayside is a superb area in which to live and work with a mild climate, beautiful scenery, affordable housing, easy connections to travel hubs and good schools.
