The School of Media, Film and Journalism (MFJ) is seeking to appoint a visionary mentor and leader as Professor of Journalism to foster excellence in research, teaching and professional activity and advocate for the discipline within the University and externally.
MFJ is diverse and vibrant and encourages the development of cutting-edge studies for more than 6,500 students across Communication and Media Studies, Film, Journalism and Academic and Professional Writing. The Monash Media Lab has a full suite of studios and digital media production spaces, and puts MFJ at the forefront of teaching about the impact of the digital revolution. The school attracts outstanding staff and has a vibrant community of doctoral students because it combines contemporary media practices with the world-class research environment of a prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) university.
The position forms part of the leadership team of MFJ and the Faculty of Arts, which is one of the largest, most diverse and dynamic arts faculties in Australia. The University is enthusiastic to make a strategic appointment to help drive the growth of the journalism discipline. This is a unique opportunity to increase the profile of the school, nationally and internationally, by helping enhance the standing of staff, research and research training activities and providing national and international media commentary in journalistic, academic and public debates.
The ideal candidate will be able to recognise opportunities in new avenues of media and journalism and therefore provide a contemporary platform for students and staff within the school. To be successful you will inspire and enable a culture of high achievement and collaboration. You will have experience in establishing a collaborative and successful approach for achieving grants and publications and in supporting and mentoring staff to enable them to fulfil their research potential.
The appointment will be on a continuing basis.
A competitive remuneration package will be negotiable for an outstanding candidate. Relocation travel, removal allowance and salary packaging are available.
