Background and Description of the Post
The University of Huddersfield International Study Centre is seeking a mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering teaching specialist with management experience to lead a department which has grown significantly over the past few years.
You will be responsible for managing a team of Engineering, Science and Computing tutors, the support and success of our international students (studying International Foundation and Year One programmes) and effective liaison with colleagues and departments within the University. You will also play an important role in the management of quality assurance and be a member of the Centre Management Team.
The person appointed will be able to contribute to the teaching programme approximately 15 hours per week for approximately 40 weeks.
- Line manage, develop and appraise the Engineering, Science and Computing (ESC) Team
- Maintain and develop the ESC provision delivered by the Centre
- Participate in ESC Team meetings at Provider (Study Group) level
- Organise and chair Programme meetings to a schedule directed by the Head of Centre
- Organise subject based induction activities including diagnostic testing e.g. Maths
- Creating and updating module handbooks
- Liaising with link tutors regarding performance of progressed students, access to resources and school based activities
- Analysis of module data including module review and progression and input proposals into the Annual Evaluation Report
- Review of module specifications and schemes of work to ensure that reading lists and content remain current
- Coordination of moderation and standardisation and preparing work for the external examiner
- Proposing and coordinating subject based enrichment
- Reviewing the quality of exams and assessments in conjunction with the Head of Centre
- Communicating key assessment regulations to subject staff

- Use a variety of methods to check learning in lessons (formative assessment)
- Provide regular and timely feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
- Prepare students for summative assessment whether for an exam, course work or assignments etc.

Taking responsibility for subject specialist knowledge
- Demonstrate and update subject specialist knowledge to ensure the currency of specialist teaching
- Convey enthusiasm for personal specialist area to staff and students

- Undertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing professional development

- Lead the ESC Team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for students
- Be part of the Centre Management Team

Other related activities as may be reasonably requested by the Head of Centre and/Deputy Head of Centre.
- A Masters and a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (Measured at application form stage)
- Current experience in engineering or the delivery of engineering programmes at levels 3 and 4 (Measured at application form stage and interview)
- Knowledge of a broad range of subjects in ESC at least at 1st year undergraduate level (Measured at application form stage and interview)
- Ability to develop and maintain high quality education and training programmes (Measured at application form stage and interview)
- Understanding the needs of international students (Measured at interview stage)
- An appropriate teaching qualification (Measured at application form stage)
- Administrative skills, including IT skills (Measured at application form stage and interview)

- Previous experience of teaching at the relevant level and within the subject area (Measured at application form stage and interview)
