King's College London - Informatics

The salary will be paid at Grade 5, £27,629 - £30,175 plus £2,623 per annum London allowance

This post will be Fixed Term for 34 months.

This is a Full-time – 100 % full time equivalent

A Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Informatics, King's College London to work with Prof Jian S Dai in the EPSRC funded project Q-PreMan: Error-propagation Based Geometrical Quality Prediction and Control Strategy for Complex Manufacturing Processes Using Parallel Kinematic Machines.

This project addresses the challenge of error-propagation with regard to parallel kinematic machines in complex manufacturing processes for large-parts machining and assembly. The candidate should have strong expertise in the area of mathematics, Lie group and Lie algebra, parallel kinematic machines, large-parts machining and assembly, complex manufacturing processes, and error analysis. The successful candidate will perform and contribute to the research in following aspects:

  • To investigate errors due to stiffness variation and deflection from a PKM in its force-motion domain with screw theory and Lie group and Lie algebra
  • To develop a mapping mechanism between process errors and part quality via mechanism manifold intersection
  • To examine the fundamental science in error propagation in PKM-based machining processes based on mechanism
  • To develop discrimination strategy for effective error control in fabrication and assembly
  • To validate and implement error propagation control strategy
  • To generate high quality journal and conference publications
  • A PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics is a plus.

The selection process will include a panel interview.

Interviews are scheduled to be held shortly after the closing date.
