Fixed Term – 3 years

About The Company

Established in 1843, Rothamsted Research is one of the UK's leading Research Institutes delivering world class agricultural science.  Our commitment to learning and development, equality and diversity as well as creating a positive work life balance,  enable a welcoming environment for all prospective employees.  We have an attractive benefits package including 25 days annual leave, a generous pension scheme and an attractive campus offering cultural and recreational activities.

Overview Of Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to join the group of
Dr. Vladimir Nekrasov focused on development and application of genome editing technologies (CRISPR/Cas) for characterisation and improvement of agronomically important traits, such as disease resistance, abiotic stress tolerance, macro- and micro-nutrient uptake and assimilation in wheat and, potentially, other crops.

Rothamsted Research is a leading research institute focused on delivering solutions for sustainable agriculture and has an excellent track-record in plant metabolic engineering and applied genetic engineering. Genome editing is a new, rapidly evolving field and genome editing technologies have a huge potential as a tool for understanding crop traits by dissecting function of underlying genes as well as for crop improvement and speeding up crop breeding.

The applicant is expected to have a PhD in plant molecular biology, genetics, genome editing or a related discipline and excellent molecular biology skills, including cloning, gene expression analysis and genotyping. Good knowledge of the genome editing field, especially applications related to plants, and experience in working with wheat or other cereals are desirable.

In addition to developing and applying the CRISPR/Cas technology, the postholder will be expected to research on potential gene targets for editing (e.g. by literature mining) and assist in supervising a research technician/students.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr. Vladimir Nekrasov (
