Business Development Officer

Main Purpose of the Post

The role of the Business Development Officer is pivotal in allowing SPECIFIC to further engage and collaborate with companies (especially SMEs) in West Wales and Valleys (WWV). SPECIFIC is part ERDF funding and as such is targeted in delivering economic growth to companies in WWV.

The post holder will actively engage with SPECIFIC’s Technology Base (e.g. its Technology Transfer Fellows and academics) and businesses in WWV to develop collaborative opportunities, new products, processes and services and opportunities that demonstrate energy positive technologies either developed at SPECIFIC or by SPECIFIC’s collaborative partnerships with others.

The role will be part of SPECIFIC’s Business Development Team and to properly function the post holder will engage daily with SPECIFIC’s research base (e.g. TTFs), businesses in WWV and Professional Services Teams to ensure opportunities are developed, executed and appropriately evidenced for capture and subsequent reporting to WEFO.

Ideally the post holder will have experience in brokering opportunities between universities and businesses in a ERDF structurally funded project from an engineering / scientific research base.
This role involves working as part of the SPECIFIC team to deliver its vision of creating 'Buildings as Power Stations' and will reporting to the Research Commercialisation Manager.

The role will be based primarily in the Baglan Bay Innovation Centre, Baglan Energy Park, Port Talbot but the post holder can be expected to work at also any other premises occupied by SPECIFIC at Swansea University.


Undergraduate degree in a science or engineering discipline with the applicant having demonstrable experience in a role that was commensurate with the job requirements
