Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Climate Effects of Meat and Dairy Production

University of Oxford - Department of Physics

Grade 7: £31,076 - £38,183 with a discretionary range to £41,709 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in climate effects of meat and dairy production. The post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years.

This project will evaluate the climate impacts of various meat and dairy production strategies, as part of a comprehensive project on impacts of future human dietary choices on human health and on the environment. The successful candidate will develop databases of greenhouse gas emissions intensities of various meat and dairy production systems, and use them to analyse impacts on future climate.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in physical or biological sciences or a related field and ideally a strong background in lifecycle analysis applied to greenhouse gas emissions of agricultural systems. Familiarity with basic physical aspects of the greenhouse effect and global warming is essential; ability to program in Python or Matlab will be an advantage.

Candidate will be expected to work independently and formulate and implement strategies needed to fulfil project goals. The post holder will have the opportunity to teach.

Please direct enquiries about the role to Professor Raymond T Pierrehumbert (raymond.pierrehumbert@physics.ox.ac.uk).

You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 29 September 2017 can be considered.
