What you’ll do

The purpose of this post is to provide academic, phantom head and clinical teaching to undergraduate Dental Therapy/Hygiene students.  Key responsibilities will include:

  • Programme Leadership: Bachelor of Dental and Oral Sciences
  • Clinical and academic teaching
  • Management of the operational activities of the programme modules
  • Student support and tutoring

Teaching and clinical activity

  • Teach a variety of academic subjects, commensurate with personal experience and interests
  • Teach clinical procedures, both in the preclinical laboratory and in the clinical setting.
  • Undertake clinical activity in support of student learning.
  • Contribute to the development and marking of student assessments
  • Support assigned students on both a personal and academic level as part of a personal tutoring system

Administration

  • Manage the programme modules, commensurate with personal experience and interests
  • Maintain strict confidentiality concerning student and patient information at all times

General

  • Implement BPP University policies and procedures as they relate to the day-to-day clinical and teaching activities
  • Support the Director of Dentistry Programmes in their work
  • Contribute to the continued development and management of BDOS programme
  • Effectively plan and prioritise own daily work.
  • Deal with reactive requests daily, such as those relating to teaching, assessment, communication with students and administrative tasks. 
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the needs of the programme and with the grade of the post.

Role requirements

The post holder must hold qualifications as a dentist or as a dental therapist. The post holder must have current registration with the General Dental Council

The post holder must have a teaching qualification or Fellowship of the HEA, or be committed to achieving either of these through BPP’s PGCPE (Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Education) or Headway, BPP’s accredited CPD scheme.

The postholder must have the skills necessary for student teaching and for patient interaction:

  • A friendly and communicative approach
  • Must have an awareness of confidentiality issues relating to students and patients
  • Must be organised and self-motivated, demonstrating personal initiative
  • Must be able to prioritise workloads and to work under pressure.
  • Must have experience of academic and clinical teaching, either of dental hygienists, therapist and/or dentists.

Please note the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
