Grade 8/9 - Full time Lecturer salary from £39,324 - £46,924 a year. Full time Senior Lecturer/Reader salary from £48,327- £55,998 a year.

Applications are invited for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Vehicle Engineering to join the School of Engineering (Department of Mechanical Engineering) at the University of Birmingham.

The School has a history of undertaking world class research in Vehicle Engineering and is proud of the strong and extensive links with industry which ensure that research is rapidly translated into practice whilst creating long lasting impact. The School boasts a creative and dynamic environment, which provides opportunities for both staff and students to develop. To build on our excellent reputation in this area, and as part of our long-term strategy, we are looking to appoint an excellent, enthusiastic and motivated academic.

The successful candidate will have research interests in either:

  • Vehicle Dynamics, including, but not limited to:
    • Chassis/body engineering, vehicle handling
    • Vehicle ride dynamics
    • Vehicle control
    • Tyre dynamics
    • Vehicle testing
    • Modelling and simulation
  • Future Power Systems, including, but not limited to:
    • Fuel spray and mixture preparation
    • Flow and Combustion diagnostics
    • Alternative fuels and biofuels
    • Emissions
    • Exhaust gas fuel reforming and after treatment
    • New powertrain system such as Hybrid
    • Advanced control
    • Modelling and simulation

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the capability to initiate and conduct high quality research in Vehicle Engineering. In addition to a relevant doctoral qualification, it is expected that the appointee will have excellent communication skills and the ability to undertake inspirational teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level across core subjects of mechanical engineering, including vehicle engineering, and to supervise final year undergraduate and postgraduate Masters projects.
