The primary focus of the College-based hub as a strategic gateway is to develop grant applications and customer relationship management with external partners. The proactive support will be achieved through a single portal for professional service interaction with College staff and external stakeholders, resulting in more decisions made at source, reduced query bounce, closer working relationships and single team approach.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day operation and transactional interface of College hubs through a partnership working approach to deliver practical, customer focussed solutions to the needs of the researcher, project managers and external stakeholders. The post holder will:

  • Provide leadership for the hub staff and translate the strategy and priorities of the Colleges into tasks, allocating workload;
  • Manage hub staff members to work as an integrated team;
  • Head of College (for hubs that support a single college) and provide well informed progress reports, agree targets going forward and a risk/issues log. The post holder will have a professional line management report to the Director of Research, Engagement & Innovation Services;
  • Manage the operational model of the College hub model.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for being target driven and, in doing so, will have ownership of the delivery of hub activity. Working practices for each function within the College hub structure is defined in the partnership document and aligned to the College(s) research and innovation strategy.

In addition to the internal hub operations, the post holder will be responsible for broader hub interaction across campuses. This will require the post holder to manage working relationships with all other Hub Managers and participate in a support network and an electronic forum to share and communicate good practice across both campuses. In addition, the post holder will establish and maintain a formal working relationship with relevant centralised Professional Service managers, and together make informed risk related recommendations to senior management on hub development activities and initiatives.
