The HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries is the first Sino-Foreign cooperative University in the Hebei Province, China. The HBU-UCLan Joint School was approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and saw the first cohort of students enrol in September 2014 in a building specifically allocated for the joint School at Hebei University (HBU).

The collaboration with HBU represents one of the biggest developments for UCLan in China within the past 10-15 years and presents an excellent opportunity for someone with the drive and determination to be involved in a significant strategic partnership.

Hebei University is located in Baoding, approximately 36 minutes by the new fast train, from Beijing. The city is becoming a commuter base for Beijing and is in a Province with a total population of over 77 million people. 

Academic programmes offered in the School are in conjunction with UCLan’s Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries. Students enrolled can complete the full degree in China or split it between China and UCLan’s Preston Campus.

The below programmes are offered in the School;

  • BA (Hons) Film and Media and Production
  • BA (Hons) Graphic Design
  • BA (Hons) Interior Design
  • BA (Hons) Animation
  • BA (Hons) Media Production and Technology
  • BA (Hons) Advertising

There are currently over 480 students enrolled on the programmes in the Joint School which will accommodate up to 800 students when at full capacity.

UCLan is looking for a dynamic Academic Head to lead on the implementation and development of UCLan courses being delivered at our joint school, responsible for the implementation of UCLan academic regulations, to work with the Dean of School (HBU appointment) and to be directly responsible for the management of UCLan team based in China, which comprises 14-16 academic staff and 1 admin staff.

The post holder must have significant experience of leading and managing, ideally with first-hand experience of Transnational Education in China, alongside top-level problem solving skills with the ability to innovate and think creatively. The Academic Head will be working in partnership with HBU Dean to present solutions and work collaboratively with the key staff at Hebei and UCLan Preston. The Academic Head will represent the University of Central Lancashire in China and so it is essential that they are able to work with a wide variety of stakeholders and be an effective communicator, responding to any challenges which may arise from working in an international environment.

The Academic Head should have a good understanding and experience of managing QAA requirements within an International Higher Education background. The post holder should be an outstanding leader, able to motivate, enthuse and encourage others.
