Senior Lecturer in Compound Semiconductor Technology

As part of a major investment programme in compound semiconductor science and technology, Cardiff University seeks talented, motivated academics at a range of levels with expertise in advanced optoelectronics and photonics to join the Institute for Compound Semiconductor (ICS) in partnership with the Sêr Cymru research group at Cardiff University, UK.

The Research Programme
For context, the Sêr Cymru group targets integrated and functional device platforms to merge optoelectronic devices with nanostructures, metamaterials and plasmonics. Our applications scope includes communication links, remote sensing, medical imaging and quantum technology with local, international and industrial collaborations.

Both ICS and Sêr Cymru form part of > £300m investment in new research and innovation centres, and its potential is already recognised by the Welsh and UK governments, who have invested over £29m towards its creation.  The ICS will be a unique facility in Europe, equipped with state-of-the art fabrication, epitaxy and device characterisation facilities.  Stimulated by demand for creative and professional prototyping service, the ICS provides an environment to advance academic research towards industrially-facing projects and is foundational member of the Compound Semiconductor Cluster.

Qualifications and Experience
Candidates will have a PhD in Engineering, Physics or closely-related subject area from a leading university programme or relevant industrial experience. You will have established expertise in the area and/or relevant industrial experience along with teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level. You will have the ability to publish in national journals, be successful in research bids and to network effectively with academics and industrial partners (all Grades).

Senior Lecturer (Grade 8)

You will be internationally recognised with an outstanding track record in the field of compound semiconductor-based optoelectronic or photonic devices or technology demonstrated through publications in high quality academic journals and collaborative industrial experience; you will have a successful track record of gaining and enhancing research income and of research/industry-based group leadership.

Commensurate with the level of appointment, you will provide inspirational leadership, shaping the University's innovation agenda in this field, and will have a major influence on the development of this research institute, industrial collaboration and contribute to the delivery of excellent research-based teaching.

These posts are full-time, 35 hours per week and open ended.

Salary:
Senior Lecturer: £48,327 - £55,998 per annum (Grade 8)
