The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) was established in 1977 with the object of promoting scholarship and learning of Muslim cultures and societies, historical as well as contemporary, and a better understanding of their relationship with other societies and faiths.

Background: Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP)

The Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) is a programme of study for practicing and prospective teachers.  The mission of STEP is to address the need for professional secondary education teachers by training exceptional graduates into teachers and mentors who can help to shape and inspire future generations and teach The Institute of Ismaili Studies’ Secondary Curriculum to Ismaili students worldwide.

The Master’s level teacher preparation aspect of STEP is being undertaken through a pioneering collaboration between the University of London’s Institute of Education (IOE) and The Institute of Ismaili Studies. The programme extends over two academic years and culminates in two postgraduate awards: a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) and Master of Arts, Education (Muslim Societies and Civilisations). Following completion of the academic programme in London, participants proceed to an in-service phase as professional secondary teachers employed by their national Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Boards (ITREB).      

The Role

The IIS invites applications for the role of STEP Liaison Coordinator.  This role will support the STEP Liaison Manager to conceptualise, plan and implement key support structures and processes for building the human resource capacities of STEP-affiliated staff of ITREBs and for the overall strengthening of the STEP endeavour across some 20 countries globally. This role involves working with international partners as well as other departments at the IIS to contribute to developing and implementing relevant policies and procedures for STEP in the field. This position also provides administrative support to the STEP Liaison Manager, particularly with the management of the STEP Liaison Unit budget and the delivery of programmes sponsored by the STEP Liaison Unit. This role is offered as a three year fixed term contract.

The Candidate

You will have experience of managing the provision of management services to a demanding customer base, preferably for an education or not-for-profit institution. Additionally, you will have good project and data management skills and budgeting experience. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills. You will be educated to Masters level, preferably in the field of educational administration, and have strong interpersonal skills. You will have knowledge of the institutional structures of the Ismaili Community, especially ITREBs.
