PhD position in Bionanotechnology

Molecular Nanoengineering group at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, Aalto University (Finland), invites applications for new doctoral candidates. The chosen candidates will carry out experimental interdisciplinary research on DNA nanotechnology, molecular self-assembly and nanoplasmonics in a multidisciplinary and international environment with excellent instrumentation and facilities. 

Information about the research group
The Molecular Nanoengineering group operates at the interface between nanoscience, molecular self-assembly, DNA nanotechnology and nanoplasmonics with particular focus on DNA-based artificial molecular systems with functionalities tailored for biosensing, nanoplasmonics and biomimetics. The group is led by assistant prof. Anton Kuzyk.

Position summary
Starting salary is approximately 2500€/month and will increase over time according to the salary system of Aalto University. The expected duration of doctoral studies is four years, but the initial contract is made for one year, and the extension is subject to advance of studies and research. 

The contract includes Aalto University occupational healthcare. 

The position is located at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus. As a living and work environment, Finland is consistently ranked highly in quality-of-life.

Major responsibilities
The task of the Ph.D. student is to participate the research and guide other students allocated to the project. The Ph.D. student is also expected to write high-quality scientific publications on the research results together with other members of the team and present the results at conferences. 

Qualifications
An ideal candidate has a solid background education in, for example, applied physics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, bionanotechnology or biophysics. Previous experience in nanomicroscopy (AFM, TEM, SEM), DNA nanotechnology, biosensing is an advantage.

The position also requires excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
