Overview Of Role

Rothamsted Research is seeking to recruit an experienced Research Scientist; Plant (Weed) Molecular Biologist for an initial 3-year fixed term contract with the potential for tenure track towards an indefinite full-time appointment.

The successful candidate will work in the Weed Ecology and Evolution group at Rothamsted Research within the Biointeractions and Crop Protection Department. The initial 3-year appointment is fully funded by the Institute Strategic Programme in Smart Crop Protection.

You will be responsible for taking a leading role (under the direction of the weeds group leader) to develop new research on weed molecular biology, with a focus on the molecular, population and quantitative genetics of herbicide resistance. You will work with other group members to develop genetic and genomic tools and approaches (initially focusing on Alopecurus myosuroides, black-grass) to investigate the molecular mechanisms and evolutionary genetics of evolving herbicide resistance. In time, the postholder is expected to develop their own novel research relating to the molecular and evolutionary biology of weed adaptation in agroecosystems.

The successful candidate will have a PhD and a strong publication record in a relevant scientific discipline as well as a strong skill set in Plant Molecular Biology.  This appointment is full time with a starting salary normally in the range of £37,890 to £41,438 per annum.
