Diagnostic tools for progressive hearing loss

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate auditory function in progressive hearing loss. The aim is to develop a set of clinical tests that can be used to diagnose the site of dysfunction within the human inner ear, using in the first instance a panel of mice with well-characterised, progressive inner ear defects that cross the range of likely defects in human progressive hearing loss (such as hair cell, synaptic or strial dysfunction). This project is funded by Action on Hearing Loss and is a collaboration between Professor Karen Steel, Dr Neil Ingham and Professor Chris Plack. It will be based at the Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases, Guy’s Campus, Kings College London.

Experience in cochlear electrophysiology or software development or use of mouse mutants would be an advantage. Good organizational and communication skills will be essential.

The selection process will include a presentation and questions with an interview panel and a visit to the laboratories.

Interviews are scheduled to be held during August/September 2017.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please contact Professor Karen Steel,
