International Foundation Programme Course Tutor (IFP)

The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) delivers English for academic purposes and academic study skills development through a wide range of activities. Within ISLI, the International Foundation Programme (IFP) delivers academic training in relevant subjects and English and study skills training to international students without British A levels or equivalent in preparation for undergraduate study.

We are seeking to appoint two Course Tutors on the International Foundation Programme (IFP) at the International Study and Language Institute. One role will be offered on a permanent basis and one on a fixed term basis. Please indicate the preferred option on the application form.

Working as part of a small team, the IFP Course Tutor will be required:

  • To teach on the International English and Academic Skills modules and/or other ISLI EAP programmes, to provide tutorial support and to undertake related administrative duties (academic year and summer vacation)
  • To act as a Personal Tutor to a cohort of students.
  • To undertake specific IFP projects and student engagement activities, as agreed with the Programme Director, in proportion to the teaching time allocated at different times of the year.

You will have:

  • A first degree (or equivalent) and a Teaching Diploma (DELTA, PGCE or equivalent)
  • Experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and study skills to a range of English language levels (IELTS 4.5 – 7.5)
  • Experience of providing pastoral and academic support to students from a range of nationalities.
  • Knowledge of UK academic conventions and of international cultural and educational differences.
