PGCE Admissions and Administrative Officer

University of Oxford - Department of Education

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated person to join us and make a significant contribution to the smooth operation of the department’s PGCE office. The work is interesting and varied in a vibrant, informal and friendly environment.

The well-established Oxford Internship Scheme (as the PGCE programme offered by the University of Oxford’s Department of Education is known) involves a close partnership between the University department and local comprehensive schools. Each year we recruit about 190 students to the course. In the most recent Ofsted inspection (2011) the Oxford PGCE was awarded the highest grades in all categories and judged to be ‘outstanding’.

Under the guidance of the PGCE Academic Administrator, you will administer all aspects of the admissions processes during each academic year cycle, including applications, interviews, acceptance and offers, background checks, communications and record-keeping. You will also carry out other administrative duties for the PGCE course including on-course administration.

Able to work with minimum supervision, you will have proven administrative skills (ideally in a similar setting), with attention to detail, good IT and database skills, and willingness to learn new software.  You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to deal confidently with prospective students, academic staff and a wide range of people. You will demonstrate tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive information and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. The PGCE Admissions Officer will be a counter-signatory for the Disclosure and Barring Service for PGCE student applications. The post is therefore subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring check as a DBS counter-signatory.

The post is based at the Department of Education in Norham Gardens, Oxford.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 23 August 2017. Interviews will take place in September 2017.
