Post Doctoral Research Associate – Experimental Fluid Mechanics

This post is full-time and fixed term for up to 12 months dependant on start date.

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate PDRA to join the Thermofluids research group at Durham University.

The post is EPSRC funded, for a fixed-term period for 12 months. The researcher will have the opportunity to work on common themes of turbulent flows spanning aspects of vortex dynamics and mixing enhancement strategies in strong pulsation flows. They will conduct experiments using an existing Particle Image Velocimetry PIV package and perhaps other instruments on a unique two-axis large pulsation flow generator and subsequently apply in-depth data analyses using MatLab or equivalent.

The successful candidate will be based at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Durham University - ranked in the top 5 for both Engineering & Computer Science, Times Good University Guide 2016/17 Durham University ranked 4th overall . They may have the opportunity to contribute to aspects of departmental teaching at undergraduate level and will be expected to contribute to doctoral student supervision as appropriate.

The post offers a good opportunity to gain a strong research track record in PIV related research areas. In addition to published research output, the candidate will be encouraged to disseminate the output from the unique rig to academic communities in a regional or an international conference.
