UCL has embarked upon an exciting programme to build a new 11 acre campus at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The campus will form part of a wider cultural and education district and has attracted significant government funding in support. UCL East will be firmly embedded in the local community and with businesses, as well as providing an environment housing world-leading research, education, entrepreneurship and innovation activities. The first facility will open during the 2020/21 academic year. For further information regarding UCL East please see The Programme Manager will be responsible for day to day management of the UCL East Programme. The UCL East programme is a major UCL programme, cutting across multiple faculties and divisions, it is a key contributor to the UCL 2034 strategy. The Programme Manager will provide programme management expertise and advice and guidance to the Academic Director and Deputy Academic Director. The role will support the successful delivery of the programme within UCL’s overall portfolio of change through effective management, challenge and coordination of the programme’s projects and activities. The Programme Manager will own the programmes approach to Programme and Project Management, championing best practice across the programme including skills development. This post is funded for 3 years in the first instance.

This is a singularly high profile venture and the role requires interaction with many people at a senior level within and external to UCL. A high degree of sensitivity and awareness of confidentiality is required along with a professional attitude, the ability to manage multiple streams of activity, and to remain tactful and assertive.

Working to the UCL East Academic Director with functional accountability to Director of Planning for UCL, the postholder will be required to have a firm grasp and understanding of the management of complex and sensitive change programmes. The post holder will lead the UCL East Programme Management Office to ensure robust plans, management, governance and reporting is in place and maintained across the programme.

To be efficient in the role the postholder will need to maintain a detailed overview of the programme as a whole to competently offer advice, identify pitfalls, and ensure the dependencies across the programme are managed. This position will have real impact on UCL’s ability to deliver this exciting, once-in-a-generation opportunity.

The UCL East programme is complex and has a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties. The UCL East Programme Manager requires an individual with proven experience in delivery of large scale and complex change programmes, ideally with an element of infrastructure development and in a higher education environment. The academic vision for UCL East is at the heart of the programme steering: the design of the buildings; the research, enterprise and teaching which will take place on the site; and, the operations and services which will be provided there. The Programme Manager needs to ensure that the academic vision is embedded into day to day activities and plans.
