Senior Press Officer

University of Reading - Henley Business School

Henley Business School, part of the University of Reading, is a world-class triple accredited business school. This role will involve working alongside the PR and Communications Manager on creating effective internal and external communication and media relations programmes in order to develop the Business School’s reputation and content strategy.

Our Press Office develops national and international stories on our world-class research, work and faculty. You will write and pitch great features and stories; manage interviews; day-to-day work on our digital and social media; and help build the Business School’s profile – generating real impact and new business.

You will be highly motivated, astute and proactive. You will work with energy and confidence and be buzzing with ideas – able to influence and drive our work. You must be able to work at pace in a fast-moving environment – able to spot opportunities early to stay ahead of our competitors.

You will have proven ability to manage major projects. You will be able to build and maintain strong networks of internal and external stakeholders. And above all, you will be able to help lead change in an exciting time of transformation both for the Business School as a whole and for our team.

You will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to tailor writing to different audiences and media
  • Proven ability to communicate complex stories, research and ideas in easily understandable, punchy language
  • Experience working strategically with story campaigns or media handling plans - identifying clear hooks, messages, channels, activity and evaluation
  • Trusted and sound judgement – able to build strong relationships at all levels within an organisation
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, work quickly and accurately to tight deadlines
  • Substantial experience in journalism, PR or media relations
