Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural Studies

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join Lori Passmore’s group to study the multiprotein complexes that regulate eukaryotic mRNA poly(A) tails. The successful candidate will use in vitro reconstitutions and high-resolution cryo-EM studies to understand the mechanistic basis of mRNA polyadenylation.

This post would suit an enthusiastic scientist with a desire to work on a challenging and rewarding project as part of a friendly and supportive team. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject and expertise in structural biology – either in cryo-EM or x-ray crystallography. In addition, experience with any of the following would be an advantage: baculovirus to express large multiprotein complexes, purification of protein complexes, assay of RNA-protein interactions, enzymatic assays to measure exonuclease activity, RNA seq.

The successful applicant will be awarded a three year MRC Career Development Fellowship. The fellowship is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life.  It provides an unsurpassed environment for both new and established researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.

Working for the MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a final salary pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare membership and excellent holiday entitlement. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
