The Market Research Team are central to the University’s ability to develop new programmes and maintain its responsiveness to the student market place at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Market Research Manager provides the lead with the University’s market research function and the expectation is that they will continue to bring a more structured approach to developing new priorities. This involves working closely with Faculties and Quality and Standards Office amongst others.

The Role

There is a current requirement to fully understand the changes in the HE market place brought about by the removal of the student number cap, the replacement of NHS bursaries by loans and the impact of the country’s impending exit from the European Union. This post is central to the University’s ability to understand the developments in the market place and to react appropriately and in a timely way.

Working within the Department of Marketing and Communications and the wider University, the Market Research Manager ensures that there is the strategic development of market intelligence within the University. This post is also responsible for developing reporting tools that will allow Marketing and Communications and the wider University to better understand student recruitment trends.

A key role of the Market Research Manager is to initiate, develop and implement a Market Research Plan for the University working with the senior staff in Marketing and Communications. They are also central to the continued development and implementation of the institutional plan at Faculty/School/Campus level working with Heads of School and Campus Directors.

You would be a key advisor to the University (SMT and Heads of School amongst others) about the potential student applicant group at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This work involves the interpretation and explanation of data sources held both by the institution and those available nationally in relation to student applications and more general societal trends.


You will be educated to degree level in a marketing or statistics related subject and professional membership of a recognised market research body is also desirable. You will have experience in a market research role in a large organisation and have experience managing complex market research projects. Experience of working within an organisation’s marketing strategy is also desirable. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills.
