The post is for a Research Associate, who will work on an Innovate UK funded project "Manufacturing techniques based on networkable intelligent control systems and sensors".

The primary goal of the Project, in which Aston Institute of photonic technologies is collaborating with industrial partners, is to develop technologies for fast and reliable food quality control. We are looking for a high calibre Research Associate who will join a strong and vibrant industrial research group developing new sensing technology. The candidate should have a proven ability to identify novel potential areas for application of developed technologies. She/he should have a PhD in the relevant area, and experience in fibre optics, nonlinear photonics, and fibre lasers design and implementation. Expertise of the candidate in the mid-infrared fibre lasers and high-power fibre optical supercontinuum sources operating in the vicinity and beyond 2 microns will be an advantage.

Essential criteria

A degree in an engineering or physical sciences (physics, chemistry, electronics), or other relevant subject.

Evidence of the capability of actively designing and carrying out research, primarily of experimental nature, writing reports, patent applications, and publishing research papers.

Experience in designing and implementation of Tm-doped fibre lasers and high-power fibre supercontinuum sources based on Tm-doped fibre lasers.

Experience in research and development of novel fibre laser systems.
