Applications are invited for a full-time Research Assistant/Associate to work within the group of Dr Rachel Evans in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy.

The purpose of the role is to conduct research into the development of scalable synthetic methods to generate hierarchically structured nanoporous materials for photocatalytic environmental remediation. The role holder is also expected to take part in collaborative work, and contribute to seminars, and to assist with the installation and testing of new equipment.

Applicants must have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in materials chemistry. They should have a proven track record exemplified by academic publications. Expertise in the areas of sol-gel synthesis and characterisation (FTIR/ MAS-NMR/XRD/SAXS/confocal microscopy/TGA), thin film deposition and photophysics is essential to the post. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely and interactively with colleagues, to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
