Research Assistant

Fixed-term contract until 3rd September 2018.

18 hours per week.

The Digital Humanities Research Centre at the University of Chester is seeking to appoint a part-time Research Assistant to be part of an international interdisciplinary team working on the project “Digging into Early Colonial Mexico: A large-scale computational analysis of 16th century historical sources (DigCH)”.

The post holder will assist with research-related tasks including the preparation, cleaning, and conversion of historical documents to appropriate encoding formats, creation of digital datasets, document annotation, and documentation. The post holder will also assist in research-related tasks for the identification and extraction of geographic information from these sources, as well as assisting in the creation of new digital methods and resources by the team.

You will join an interdisciplinary team of internationally renowned researchers from the UK, Portugal, and Mexico, based at the Universities of Chester, Lancaster, Lisbon, and the Museum of Templo Mayor. You will work in close collaboration with the team’s Senior Research Assistant based at Chester and another four based in Portugal and Mexico.

You will be qualified to degree level; a postgraduate qualification is desirable. You must have demonstrable expertise and interest in historical research and familiarity with the use of databases and digital methods for research.
