IMMG Staff Bioinformatician

The Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM; at the University of Edinburgh has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated and user-focused staff Bioinformatician to play a core role in our genomics strategy. The post holder will be responsible for the management and analysis of medical genomics project data within the Scottish Genomes Partnership (SGP; working closely with clinical and computational scientists. The SGP is a flagship project for genomics in Scotland, generating whole genome sequence (WGS) from patients to gain new insights into a variety of diseases, and pioneering novel approaches to using WGS in NHS clinical practice.

The successful applicant will join the IGMM Bioinformatics Analysis Core, which provides computational expertise to ~500 IGMM scientists, and also form an important link between academic and NHS partners in the SGP and the Edinburgh Genomics ( high throughput sequencing facility. They will work from the new, state of the art Systems Medicine building at IGMM, designed around our thriving community of computational biologists. This post will have a critical role in medically relevant scientific discoveries, coordinating and providing analyses of large genomic datasets across different disease cohorts. It offers an excellent opportunity to work with a variety of distinguished IGMM scientists on a range of cutting edge research problems. The post would suit a biologist with bioinformatics experience or a computer scientist with a strong interest in biomedicine. Good project management and interpersonal skills are also desirable.
