Due to the £11.5m exciting expansion of sports facilities an opportunity has arisen for 8 part time Sports Assistants to join our staff at the University of Essex Sports Centre. The new Sports Arena will include 3 basketball courts, 3 netball courts, 5 volleyball courts, 8 badminton courts, 2 futsal courts plus many more features. The New Sports Arena is due to be completed in November 2017.

The Sports Centre is open 6-30am to 10pm Monday to Friday and the Gymnasium 6.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday, all facilities 8am to 10 pm at weekends. The facility is used predominantly by students and staff and is also open to the public. We currently have a sports hall, squash courts, climbing wall, tennis courts with dome, Gymnasium, activity studios, synthetic turf pitch, and football and rugby grass pitches.

The Role and duties
The Sports Assistants will report to the Sports / Health and Fitness Supervisors. Duties will include: Supervision and preparation of sports areas, equipment and facilities, and to assist with preparation of sporting and fitness events; to monitor customer use of equipment and to ensure health and safety is fully in place.

Qualifications and skills required
Candidates must possess a relevant qualification in sport/recreation/physical exercise/fitness and health.

It is desirable that candidates are aware of health and safety legislation and procedures in relation to sport/fitness. Previous experience within a sports centre environment is also required. The job-holder must be able to work a flexible shift pattern including evenings and weekends.
