The role and its responsibilities

SOAS wishes to appoint an Information Compliance Manager to provide leadership in areas including data protection, freedom of information and records management. The post also oversees elements of the School’s policies for student complaints and disciplinary matters.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of the policy and practice of information compliance in higher education or another analogous organisational framework.

The School is looking for someone to lead on the implementation of its work in this area and respond to any changes necessary with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation.

The successful candidate will liaise with colleagues across the School in developing, promoting and embedding best practice across the School and will act as the School’s Data Protection Officer.

The post has direct line management responsibility for one member of staff, supporting work on records management.

Skills and experience

Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant experience in the field and the ability to work as a self-starter, or as part of diverse teams and groups. A drive, enthusiasm and strong commitment to information compliance are essential. The post-holder will be able to interpret the legislation and advise School officers on its impact on School policies and procedures.

The post reports to the School’s Secretary but will work closely with a range of staff from across the School and be expected to deal with sensitive case work in an appropriate manner.

About the Governance & Compliance Directorate

The Governance and Compliance Directorate provides central management, guidance and co-ordination for the School’s activities, in conjunction with the SOAS Board of Trustees and supporting committee structure.
