Research Associate in Building Energy

Loughborough University - School of Architecture Building and Civil Engineering

Fixed-term for 24 months

The Research Associate (RA) will join a multi-disciplinary research team within the country's premier building energy modelling and measurement research group.

The group has acquired, and is still collecting, energy and environment data from hundreds of UK homes. Data from the DEFACTO project and the Smart Community Energy Network (SCENe) project underpin international collaborative research, for example within International Energy Agency (IEA) Annex 71, Building Energy Performance Assessment.

The RA will use the SCENe data to validate a model for predicting community energy demand and capitalize on the DEFACTO data to develop black-box, and potentially grey-box, models to predict future energy demand.

Applicants will have: a PhD and/or postgraduate research experience in a relevant field or equivalent industry expertise; experience of handling large data sets; expertise with relevant numerical modelling techniques; and experience of working in the field of buildings and energy demand.

Experience of dynamic thermal modelling of buildings, black-box and, perhaps, grey-box modelling, would be advantageous.

A commitment to international collaborative research and excellent written and communication skills is essential.

Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Kevin Lomas, Professor of Building Simulation, K.J.Lomas@lboro.ac.uk, (01509)222615 or Dr David Allinson, Lecturer in Building Physics: measurement and modelling, D.Allinson@lboro.ac.uk, (01509)223643.

Application closing date: 5 September 2017

Interviews will take place in September.
