Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties

Appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD. The initial appointment will be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 25 - 28 £28,098 - £30,688).

Duration of employment: This position is full-time and available to 31st March 2021.

Role Purpose
The University of Dundee has been awarded a £7million grant from the National Institute of Health Research Global Health programme to establish a major new Scotland-India clinical partnership to combat diabetes. The new project will see Dundee’s world leading expertise in the use of genomics linked to medical records to deliver improved care in diabetes `twinned’ with the large patient data set (covering over 400,000 Indian diabetic patients) collected by Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, the largest clinical network of diabetes care in India.

Professor Colin Palmer will lead the research unit in Dundee and this is a fantastic opportunity for the Research Assistant to work with an international team on the development of a large and leading edge research platform which will be invaluable to Bio-medical researchers internationally.

Principal Duties

  • Assemble databases from electronic medical records as a basis for modelling diabetes outcome and therapeutic response.
  • Analyse associations between genomic data and the progression of diabetes, development of complications such as heart disease, retinopathy and kidney disease.
  • Analyse extensive retinal image data and its contribution to the above in a systematic multi ‘omic’ approach.
  • Lead and contribute to reports, scientific papers and presentations arising from this work.
  • Facilitate and support necessary to meet the requirements of the funding body.
