Clerical Assistant in the Astrophysics Group

A position is open for a Clerical Assistant as part of the Astrophysics Group funded by the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project at the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, in the group of Professor Paul Alexander.

The role holder will be responsible for providing efficient and effective clerical support to the University's Big Data Initiative and the Square Kilometre Array project.

The role holder will be required to provide a clerical service including managing emails, answering telephone queries, liaising with outside institutions and industry, administer and coordinate meetings, including production of agendas/notifications, arranging venues or setting up telecons, minute taking, gathering and adding data to databases, spreadsheets and websites. For some duties the role holder will need to arrange and ideally attend meetings and conferences at various locations so a readiness to travel is desirable. Competence with, or a willingness to learn how to use IT software packages (such as Word, Excel and Content Management Systems for web) is essential. The role holder will be responsible for much of the underpinning day-to-day project administration for the SKA Science Data Processor project.

The ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organisational and problem solving skills are required. Applicants should have an ability to work accurately under pressure.

Applicants should be educated to A-level standard. The post holder should have excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform clerical duties in an organised and methodical manner.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2019 in the first instance.
